Research interests |
My research interests focus on intergroup relations, namely how prejudice and discrimination between unequal-status groups can be reduced during childhood. My Ph.D. project aims to further explore a cognitive-motivational model for prejudice reduction – the Common Ingroup Identity Model (Gaertner et al., 1993). The general aim of my Ph.D. is to explore factors that may help explain why and under what circumstances are recategorization and dual identity effective for reducing ethnic prejudice during childhood in unequal-status groups and with real and meaningful subgroup and superordinate categories. I’m interested in how recategorization and dual identity operate when the intergroup structure comprises both a high-status group (white children) and a low-status group (black children), and what psychological processes, along with contextual factors, may account for these cognitive representations (in)success. |
